The Faculty of Economics and Management (FSEG) of the University of Social Sciences and Management of Bamako (USSGB) signs with the firm SG consulting and the School of Management Sciences of the Université du Québec à Montréal (ESG-UQAM), an assistance project to ensure educational continuity at the Faculty (FSEG) under the leadership of the Embassy of the Republic of Mali in Canada, the leadership of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to the project of Support for the Development of Higher Education (PADES) funded by the World Bank.
This distance learning initiative comes from professors from prestigious higher education institutions in Canada, and reflects the political will of the Government of Mali and its partners to mitigate the impact of the VOCID 19 pandemic on education. The aim is to establish educational continuity through distance education during the closure of the ESFG and to maintain education services by making resources available to students.
In this context, distance learning will cover six (6) courses: descriptive statistics, demography, banking marketing, dynamic macroeconomics, project management and financial mathematics.
As a reminder, the École des sciences de la gestion (ESG UQAM) is the largest management school in La Francophonie with more than 100,000 graduates, the ESG-UQAM trains more than 20% of management students in Quebec with its 300 professors and 300 lecturers. Attended annually by nearly 15,000 students enrolled in one of its 70 training programs, the UQAM ESG ranks among the best schools and management faculties in Quebec, Canada and the world. Urban and open to the world, it offers a very stimulating academic environment for its students, teachers and employees, guided by its managerial values of social responsibility and sustainable development.
Indeed, in the context of the fight against VOCID – 19, the Government of Mali, with the support of the World Bank, through the Project to Support the Development of Higher Education (PADES), has undertaken measures to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on education by establishing educational continuity through distance learning. This strategy first prioritized classes preparing for exams and higher education. Mali intends to show resilience in the education sector by committing itself to a new phase of investing in and strengthening distance higher education in the future in order to mitigate the loss of learning, but also to adapt and re-enter the transformation that is already profoundly changing education systems and learning environments.
The FSEG support agreement is not only part of the educational continuity but also is perfectly linked to the systemic responsibility for the malfunctioning of the sub-sector.
This first initiative to teach Canadian programs at a public university in West Africa, in this case in Mali, will allow for the establishment of bachelor's and master's programs in these institutions so that young people in Mali can benefit from quality teaching that has a strong impact on their education.
