Virtual Exhibition on Supply of Goods and Services to Mines in West Africa

The Canada-Mali Association Chamber of Commerce and its partners will organize, from February 01 to 2, 2023, the Virtual Exhibition on Supply of Goods and Services to Mines in West Africa.

The objective of the trade fair is to create opportunities for trade in mining goods and services between West African companies and Canadian suppliers.

This virtual lounge will be structured around two strands. An exploration and commercial component.

The exploration component will enable suppliers of goods and services in West Africa and Canada (including Saskatchewan) to:

  1. Information on the Mali, Burkina-Faso and Guinea mining sectors, their markets and major players;
  2. Allow participants to benefit from the expertise of experts in the sector supply in West Africa, Canada (including Saskatchewan) for goods and services in the mining industry;
  3. To benefit from information on commercial opportunities for supply of goods and services and West African needs;
  4. Having adequate answers to the questions government programs supporting Canadian suppliers and businesses (and Saskatchewan) export;
  5. Feeding business relations between suppliers and Services in West Africa of Canada (and Saskatchewan).

The Fair will enable Canada's mining goods and services suppliers (and Saskatchewan) to develop reliable business relationships with West African companies that have proven successful in their fields and to diversify their markets and partners in the sector.

Suppliers of mining goods and services in West Africa will meet with suppliers from Canada (and Canada). Saskatchewan) experienced and with strong potential in different markets.

The exploration component of the show will be held via Zoom on 01 and Remo on 02 February 2023.

Suppliers of goods and services from West Africa and the African diaspora in Canada who wish to do so may register by January 30, 2023.

      The commercial component will enable providing pre-qualified companies in Mali, Burkina-Faso and Guinea with real business and B2B relationships with suppliers of mine goods and services facilitated by the Canada-Mali Association Chamber of Commerce, SIMSA Saskatchewan, MSTA, Saskatchewan and The Embassy of the Canadian Embassy in Mali.

      The trade fair will take place via Remo on February 2, 2023 and Canadian-based suppliers (and Saskatchewan)who so wish may register by 30 January 2023.

      B2B meetings are planned for the Program and will be facilitated by:

      4. Saskatchewan Trade Commissioners
      5. The Mali Embassy Team in Canada
      6. The embassy team at the Canadian Embassy in Mali.

      Quick Facts

      Mali, Burkina Faso and Guinea have the fastest and most resilient economic growth in West Africa due to their mineral wealth. Their annual GDP growth has been around 5% over the decade. The three countries recorded the following results in 2021.

      1. The combined production of gold in 2021 in Mali, Burkina Faso and Guinea amounts to 154 tonnes;
      2. The combined direct receipts of gold amounted to CAD 3.5 billion in 2021;
      3. About CAD 14 billion of export earnings in 2021, or 77% of total export earnings of countries;
      4. About 74,500 cumulative jobs for the 3 direct and indirect countries in 2021;
      5. Over CAD 3 billion in purchases of local goods and services in 2021 with a potential of CAD 14 billion.

      Sub-Saharan Africa, and West Africa in particular, continues to be an important destination for mining and foreign direct investment. About 25 per cent of the world's mineral discoveries over the past decade are in sub-Saharan Africa.

      The most significant pockets of expenditure in terms of acquisitions of goods and services are:

      • Mining equipment
      • Provision of personal protective equipment
      • Spare parts, machinery and sale/rent of vehicles
      • Facilities and equipment maintenance services/Mechanical repairs
      • Production and transport of ore
      • Operation for the extraction of open-pit ore
      • Supply of products for the processing of ore (lime, pellet, caustic soda, chloridric acid, silver nitrate, etc.)
      • Mining drilling (hydraulic and production)
      • Logistics services, distribution and ground transportation of ore
      • Construction Services (Civil Engineering)
      • Construction of various structures (barrage, bridge, buildings, road, etc.)
      • Construction of mining sites,
      • Construction of tailings plant (terrace work)
      • Construction materials
      • Environmental and geological services
      • Professional services – financial, legal & human resources
      • Food and food services

      The West African countries have put in place a large number of tax incentives and incentives to support the start-up and growth of enterprises and favourable investment regulations (non-discrimination, repatriation of profits, 100 per cent foreign ownership of capital, protection against expropriation). Mali has signed many/various international investment guarantee (MIGA) and dispute resolution agreements (CIIRD, ACJP, OHADA);

      These countries and Canada have signed a agreement on investment promotion and protection which came into force on 8 June 2016. This agreement should further promote and guarantee investment between the two countries;
