H.E. Mr. Fatima Braoulé MEET THE MALI IN CANADA
Statement by the Ambassador on the SVPSM
Explore business opportunities in Canada
Canada, with an estimated population of 37.6 million, is a huge import market from the world. It is therefore highly dependent on the effects of foreign trade, as evidenced by the many bilateral and multilateral trade agreements it has negotiated and signed with different countries to ensure the normal functioning of its economy.
The three key sectors of its import market, which may be of interest to developing country exporters and Mali in particular, are: agri-food, textiles and clothing, and interior decoration. Canada's agri-food imports reached $11.2 billion in 2019, textiles and clothing imports reached $14 billion in 2019, and interior decoration imports reached $3 billion in 2019. These items were mainly from the United States, China, the European Union (United Kingdom, Germany), Japan, and Mexico for the most part.
Canada also offers duty-free and quota-free access to the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and lower-than-normal tariffs to more than 100 other developing countries, providing them with a definite advantage over competition. The Canadian market access initiative was extended until 2024.
