Activities of the short- and medium-term working group

The working group on the mining sector set up by the Embassy of the Republic of Mali in the short and medium term intends to intervene on the Strategic Axis 5, namely: the qualitative and quantitative upgrading of the human resources needs of the State whose main activities are:

  1. Conduct a detailed assessment of the needs of Mali's mining and oil sectors, in terms of volume, quality and evolution of human resources, according to the policy and strategies adopted for its development;
  2. Strengthen national actors (representatives of the central state, local communities, small-scale mining, CSOs, etc.) in terms of the capacity to negotiate contracts, agreements and benefits of community development;
  3. Support the establishment of the African Mining School on the basis of a business plan that will define its position in relation to unmet training needs to support the national mine policy and demonstrate its technical and economic feasibility;
  4. To provide higher education institutions in Mali (universities, grandes écoles) with courses in line with the needs of the mining and oil sectors and to strengthen their capacity to do so (cursus and training programmes, equipment, teachers, mechanism for effective integration of practical training);
  5. To design and implement a programme to reshape the training and capacity building programmes for vocational training for mining occupations;
  6. Implement an alternative training mechanism (school, enterprise) in the field of mines;
  7. To operationalize a continuing, technical and vocational training programme in mining occupations.
